Guys. Can we talk about their A5 wagyu? I usually only come here for the fish, of which I have had numerous times. But today was a special day: someone in the party ordered the wagyu. Forget the steakhouses.
When I say that Yuzu can cook wagyu I mean it. There are few times when I've said I really like the steak (and yes House of Prime Rib is one of those magical places). Oh man. The best steak of my life I would say was in Shin Kobe in Japan. This is the probably the second. For this tiny shop, they deliver the amazing flavor and texture of well-prepared beef. Temperature: perfect very warm but not hot. Salt: a little salty but it makes the flavors linger. Pepper: that actually hits you last, a nice afternote. Color: deep pink. Juice: just a little bit every bite. Fat: perfectly rendered. Texture: firm enough for chewing but separates easily with no stringy bits. Flavor: amazing and it sustains it's flavor (see the salt comment). Quantity: perfect to satisfy with still room for dessert.

My boyfriend is a regular here and he brought me. It was not disappointed. Yuzu is cozy and nice japanese restaurant in San mateo. Sashimi is always fresh and cooked dishes are also very good. I love grilled hamachi and salmon with fresh wasabi here. Please try that.
Also I love chef's kohada and uni sushi. I live in sf so,
I can't come to eat sashimi and grilled fish every day. I want to eat every time!! -

A very cozy little restaurant that offers very excellent and fresh sushi, rating amongst the best in the bay area.
I came for a very late lunch (1:30PM) and the place was practically empty. The chef was a bit irritated, but understandable given I came in right before closing. I started with an anago tempura - this was honestly not very memorable. The anago wasn't particularly flavorful and had hints of fishiness.
However, the sushi was very impressive! I greatly enjoyed the great king salmon - very flavorful and full-bodied, everything you'd want out of a cut of salmon. Likewise, the salmon belly was rich and yummy - definitely one of my favorite cuts of sushi. Unfortunately, another one of my favorite cuts - hamachi - was a bit of a letdown. Despite that, I had one of my best salmon experiences in recent memory.
One of my favorite things about omakase nigiri is getting to try a bunch of different cuts I normally wouldn't order. I really enjoyed the great bite of the bouncy kinme tai, and the shima aji had a very fragrant and substantial oil content. Typically I avoid octopus and squid, but the octopus here was extremely fresh - the crisp tentacle split apart easily to the refreshing sweetness you expect from fresh seafood. The saba was particularly impressive - not fishy at all, yet still a very powerful mackerel flavor.
While there were a couple of forgettable cuts, most of the fish offered here was very excellent in terms of freshness and quality. Definitely recommend doing an omakase course at the sushi bar. -

We love the Nigiri and American Rolls! Definitely the best peninsula sushi, hands down.

As sushi frequent flyers around the globe we always measure a sushi bar by its salmon freshness. Yuzu Sushi hits it out of the park!
It was our first visit to Yuzu on an early Saturday evening in September 2018 with our 13 years old son (who was being 'rewarded' for his recent straights A's report card) and his grandparents.
We are always looking for neighborhood gems and this one shines! The cozy restaurant required us to squeeze in the front table for five by the window when we arrived.
Our waiters were very prompt, courteous and graciously helpful with taking our order and making sure everything was satisfactory. From my mother-in-law's ordering the grilled salmon, vegetable tempura to the fried Brussels sprouts and our various house specialty sushi rolls we were VERY impressed with the service, sushi creativity, prompt plating and deliciously fresh sushi.
Highly recommend Yuzu Sushi & Grill! We will be back soon!
